have recently come across this new device.
am very excited about it myself, as it is specifically designed to speak to you, rather than be looked at, so has audio feedback, and proper buttons. I have previously been using the apple watch as a swimming tracker, but I really do think this new device is going to do a much better job, with better audio feedback, and at a very considerably lower cost.
the apps for iPhone and android, both seem to be very accessible from the outset, but haven't really gone in to all there features yet.
there are also some good videos on the support page, which do give quite a bit of useful info, although as they feature sighted people doing things with the apps, some of there usefulness does get a bit lost.

This does sound interesting, would be great if you could provide a review if you buy it and after you have used it for a bit.
I'd love to know how well the open water directions work for a blind person. It says it would tell you, for example, to turn to 2 o'clock once you reach a certain spot if you pre-program a route and I'd love to know if it would give you ongoing corrections if you drift off-course.
One thing I did not read about and which is nice with the Apple Watch is whether you get heart rate and calories used. I know the heart rate with the Apple Watch is not as accurate during a swim because of all the water, but nonetheless it's nice to get a sense.

it was mainly for that live directions feedback whilst in open water that I purchased it, as open water swimming is what I really love to do. with winter setting in however, I don't know when I will get a good opportunity to give it a good open water field test.
not sure if it does those other bits you mentioned, as I purchased it for open water use, but it does seem to have some training program options, so there is a possibility that those may give that sort of info. it is only a possibility, as I think this device is purely designed to concentrate on giving specifics on swimming, rather than on general fitness.
