Hi.
Getting ready to buy a new washer/drier, and since I only get one shot at getting it right I am wondering if anyone here has experience with operating any of the newer models with an iPhone app? Thanks.

Hi Bill,

I gave up on this about a year and a half ago although I am not saying things haven't changed by now. I was also hoping we would see a lot more of these washers and dryers who can be controlled with an app, you can do it with thermostats, the Instant Pot, Lights and so many other devices that one would think the technology is there and it would just be a matter for a company to decide if they want to use a direct WiFi connection or the zWave standard. But as I said, when I was ready to buy I found nothing I liked and I bought a Miele washer and dryer which don't have an app, but I can operate them since they have actual buttons and while some of these buttons display options on an LCD screen I can either write down the order or use my iPhone and an app like Seeing AI to read the screen. The nice thing is that if the machine I bought it switched off it always starts at the same option, e.g. there is a button for Master CAre which is a program and then you press another button to cycle through about 6 or 8 options like Towels, Outer Wear, Denim and Jeans etc. When you first turn the machine on and press Mastercare it always starts at Towels so if Denim and Jeans is the third option I know I have to press the button twice to get there.
I know this may not be a good solution for everybody and this was a very expensive washer and dryer set when compared to many of the usual brands here like Samsung, LG, Maytag etc., but I have very specific expectations and would never ever buy a Samsung washer/dryer and probably not most other Asian brands, either. I find the German designs and in the case of this Miele set, German-made appliances better in terms of built quality and washing quality. I am pretty sure there are very good others out there and probably even some of the Korean or Chinese ones, but that is just me, I bought a high-end Bosch dishwasher and expect this Miele washer and dryer set will be with me for at least 20 or 25 years. Our next big purchase is a range and here I am looking at one with an induction cooktop and a good oven, unfortunately our house isn't big enough to have a separate cooktop and wall oven, but Bosch also has some very nice ones and while I'd love to buy a Miele here also those are beyond my price range since you are easily looking at $10,000 Canadian for one of those, the ones from Bosch are around $4,000 Canadian.
I'd love to hear if others actually have purchased a connected washer and dryer and, if you decide on one, please share your experience.

Take care,
Sieghard
