Discussion:
Does Anyone own both a Sonos One and a Play:1 Speaker - Question About Airplay

I have read that I can use Airplay on my Play:1 speaker as long as I also
have a Sonos 1. Is this true only when I group the Play:1 and the Sonos 1
together...and does this mean that both speakers must be playing the same
AirPlay content? Stated another way, can I use AirPlay on just the Play:1
speaker as long as I have a Sonos 1 set up in my network even though the
SOnos 1 would not be streaming AirPlay content.

I hope this makes sense.

Hi Chuck,

I think you have to group them. The Sonos One will receive the stream from your iPhone via Airplay and of course anything you group with it will also play it, but if you take the Sonos One out of the group I don't see how the Play 1 can receive the stream. I have two stereo sets of Sonos 1 speakers and our Apple TV fourth generation, if I go to Airplay in Audible I see only Bathroom, Kitchen and Apple TV and bathroom and kitchen are where my Sonos One speakers are.
However, if it is Audible you want to play you could play it on any Sonos device via the Connect to a device button which is somewhere in the middle of the screen, in terms of swiping it is one swipe to the right from the book title image and one swipe to the left of the Jump back button.
You may need to have Audible set up in your Sonos app as a source and you can of course also access any of your books directly via the Sonos app and bypass the Audible app completely.

Regards,
Sieghard

Is AirPlay on Sonos only on Play 1 and Play 5? This has been my understanding. I have 4 Play 3's, and not really a place I'd want a Play1. I could use a standalone Play 3 in a little used room, though, where I would put one of my current Play 3's.

Thanks, Keith

Yes, Sonos One and Play 5 for now, actually, I think also on the new Beam SoundBar and possible on the PlayBase as well. The new Sonos Amp also has it. It is available through installers now and will be available for normal purchase in February.

Hi Sieghard,
Yes, I can confirm that Airplay also works on my Sonos PlayBase, which is paired with two of the older Play 1 speakers.

Best

Nicky
