Regarding the iPhone XS

Hello everyone,

Today I got to look at a friend's iPhone XS. I found it to be rather
interesting, and different. But I also found it to be rather frustrating.

I did not know that now you either have to use a passcode, or face ID. I
honestly feel it should be your personal choice rather or not as to if
you should have to use any of it. But that's just me. I am 1 who never
mis-places their phone. I don't leave it unattended, and it's always on
me, or near me. But I also realize that not everyone is this fortunate.

I knew there was no longer a home button. I really didn't care for this.

I mean, how in the world does anyone get back to a main screen? Or out
of either an App you are in, or out of a list of your Apps?

I know it's doable, because I listened to what Voiceover told me to do.
But I just could not get the hang of those gestures. I kept closing
Apps, and I wasn't even using 3 fingers to slide up.

So it was a very odd, and unusual experience. I would like to spend more
time with 1 of these phones, just to try and figure it out. But I don't
think I want to personally own 1.

But I know in time these are likely going to be the only options I have.
So I feel I should have a better grasp of how to use 1.

I will say that I liked the feel of the phone in my hand. I liked the
texture of it. It was out of the case.

So that was my experience. I just wanted to share this with you all.

Hi Terri,

You can still completely disable passcode and Face Id if you want.
I think people who own any of the X phones without a home button get used to the gestures to get out of an app and to bring up the app switcher pretty quickly.
I will have my 6S Plus for at least another year and possibly two and therefore I am not at all worried about figuring out the gestures, who knows what Apple comes up with in a year or two. Most likely these gestures will still be around, but then again who really knows.

Sieghard

Yeah true they are not hard to catch on to, even though I didn't like
them much. Glad my 7plus should last me a bit longer. If I for some
reason need to upgrade my IPhone the 8plus will be my choice. Next
year or 2020 I am probably going to be looking towards something else
anyways, and hoping at the time that my current IOS device last,
because I really like using the watch.

That choice of no security has other consequences. Any features that
require security beyond your Apple ID and password won't be useable. Apple
Pay would be an example. Coming up with a simple passcode is just a
basically good idea unlesss you have memory issues preventing you
remembering a six-digit number.

I do the same. A lot of times I will sue Braille Screen Input to write
in the code. this way it is private and nobody knows what numbers are
being entered. I will probably make the jump to a Ten next year since
Face ID is getting better, so I've heard.

I’m not inclined to do that since I prefer to keep it as a one handed device as much as possible. Braille would be too awkward if I’m out and about and want to quickly unlock it from my jacket pocket or can't/don’t' want to stop just to punch it in. Ultimately though, just goes to show that there are a myriad of options one can choose from. Be it no passcode/face ID security to complicated ones.

I do the same. A lot of times I will sue Braille Screen Input to write in the code. this way it is private and nobody knows what numbers are being entered. I will probably make the jump to a Ten next year since Face ID is getting better, so I've heard.

Also, keep in mind you can choose to have a 4 digit code or any string
of characters instead of the default 6 digit option. Because I’m lazy,
I go for the 4 digit option.

That choice of no security has other consequences. Any features that
require security beyond your Apple ID and password won't be useable.
Apple Pay would be an example. Coming up with a simple passcode is
just a basically good idea unlesss you have memory issues preventing
you remembering a six-digit number.

Just a quick note, you do not need to use a passcode, or Face ID on the X S.
You may elect to use neither of them.

Subject: Regarding the iPhone XS
Hello everyone,
Today I got to look at a friend's iPhone XS. I found it to be rather
interesting, and different. But I also found it to be rather frustrating.
I did not know that now you either have to use a passcode, or face ID.
I honestly feel it should be your personal choice rather or not as to
if you should have to use any of it. But that's just me. I am 1 who
never mis-places their phone. I don't leave it unattended, and it's
always on me, or near me.
I would like to spend
more time with 1 of these phones, just to try and figure it out. But I
don't think I want to personally own 1.
But I know in time these are likely going to be the only options I have.
So I feel I should have a better grasp of how to use 1.
I will say that I liked the feel of the phone in my hand. I liked the
texture of it. It was out of the case.
So that was my experience. I just wanted to share this with you all.
Terri
