This is a truly miserable experience.
When Audible first introduced the Apple Watch app I was listening to a book called Wolves by D. J. Molles to my watch.
The book is 18 hours and 19 minutes and at first I couldn't figure out why when I opened the Audible app on my watch it kept saying I needed to first transfer a book by syncing it to my watch.
I eventually ignored it and a few days later happened to check and the book was then on my watch, why something like can't transfer over Wi-Fi in minutes I am not sure.
Anyhow, on the watch there then shows the title and there are 4 buttons which just say "Button". By trial and error I figured out that the bottom right button is the sleep timer. The one above on the right as well doesn't seem to do anything until I force press it, then it opens a menu where I can delete the book, I can set speed and a few other things.
On the left are also two buttons one on top of another and unlabelled and I haven't quite figured out what they do. When I double tap on the bottom left I hear a sort of tone and then Voiceover speaks the title and when I double tap again it starts playing, however, none of the 4 buttons seems to stop playback and I had to go into my Now Playing screen where I have labelled buttons for Pause, 30 seconds rewind and 30 seconds skip.
Anyhow, I really don't have time for such nonsense especially since I can't even listen on my Apple Watch speaker. This would be the only use I currently have, I could maybe turn the volume quite low and with my watch near my head I could listen at night without having to use a headset and without disturbing my wife, sort of like a pillow speaker almost. But you can only listen with a Bluetooth headset so I might as well use my iPhone or, even better, when I am at home I can just tell my Echo to play my book since I have my Voyager Edge paired with my Echo speaker as well. Here I can tell it which book and if I am already listening to a book I just say "Alexa, play my book" and it will start where I left off on my iPhone or if I was listening on a different Echo device including my Sonos One speakers.
If Audible wants people to use their Apple Watch app to listen to books they better make this a better experience first.
Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Re: Synching Audible book on to Apple watch
Hi Anna,
Glad its not just me then! I was trying to sync a 15 hour book and the
phone which has an APPLE smart battery pack was right next to the watch
which was on the charger.
I think I will try some experimentation and see if there is anything on
the forums about this and possibly complain to Audible, not really a
good start for a new watch App.
Thanks
Gary
Post by Anna DresnerHi Gary,
I got a 1.5-hour book onto the watch when it was plugged in overnight. I couldn't transfer a 9-hour book, though. Transferring is slow and likely to fail, so your best bet is to do short books. And nothing will transfer unless the watch is on the charger.
HTH,
Anna
Hi,
Has anyone managed to successfully sync and Audible book from their IPHONE across to their APPLE watch?
I am running the latest IOS and watch OS on my IPHONE 6 and watch series 2. All I get is a message saying "can't communicate with watch" which is strange as I can ping the phone from the watch and all my other Apps communicate across the two devices fine.
Thanks
Gary
