Discussion:
Using the calendar

Hello everyone,

So I used to just make notes on my phone for my appointments and such.

However, now I am trying to learn how to use the calendar. I am a bit
confused by it though.

For 1 thing, when I set an event, and I want to be alerted, I don't get
any notification.

What could be causing this problem?

Also, once an event is over, is it not cleared from the calendar?

Will I always need to go in and delete stuff?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

I would say that the calendar takes a little fiddling to get it to work, but it is worth the trouble.

As for the notifications, go into notification settings and find the calendar; you can change how the phone lets you know about alerts there.

My only frustration with the calendar is that focus seems to jump around when you are trying to enter something. But it has proved very useful in keeping track of my typical older-lady round of appointments and such.

Siri will schedule appointments, and will list existing appointments as well.

"schedule an appointment titled breakfast on December 4 at 10 a.m."

"what are my appointments next week? What are my appointments for
January? When is the appointment titled "dentist"?

I use Fantastical2 to display active appointments, but I use Siri for
all my scheduling.

if you go into settings, Calendar, you can set a default alert prior to your appointment. This will be used for all new appointments after you have set a default alert time.
You can edit your current ones and dig into the details to turn on alerts.
Using Siri is excellent and for reading your appointments, the $4.99 for Fantastical 2 is beyond worth the price.

Anne,

Now why didn't I think of getting Siri to do this? Thanks for the tip.

Hello to all of you who offered help with the Calendar App.

I really appreciate the help and suggestions. I did purchase
Fantastical. So now it's just getting used to them both. But I am
looking forward to it.

Thank you again for the much needed help.
