Hi Tom are you using Alex as your voice over voice?
If so try switching it to the Tom voice and that should go away.
I have that in IOS 12 when I was using Alex as my voice over voice.
So I switched over to Tom and my phone doesn’t do that anymore.
I have A iPhone 6S plus as well.

Subject: Problem with voice over muting

I have an iPhone 6S. I’ve had this problem for quite some time now. Most of the time when I end a phone call, voice over goes to mute. I can hear the clicks going from app to app but no speech. I always have to turn voice over off and on again to get it back. I can’t triple finger double tap to turn mute off. Any ideas what’s going on, or is anyone else having this problem? Thanks.

For those for whom the power off, but hitting cancel works, do you have a lot of apps open? I.E. have you cleared out the app switcher?

If the app switcher is clear and this method works consistently, you may want to send that solution to ***@apple.com since it might provide them more information on what may be happening.

Every now and then, I do. My husband figured out to power off, but hit cancel, and so far, the few times it has happened, that has worked on my SE.

When you change voices, how to you get a sample? I looked over there one time, but couldn't be sure how to make a change I might not want. So, if someone knows the steps, to check one and download, I'd appreciate it - thanks.

Best regards,

Carolyn

ON my super old 5S, I started to have problems where VoiceOver would cut out when flicking around the screen. If I flicked to a phone number, VO would go quiet and inniciate the call. Some choppiness and other general performance issues. I at first figured it had to do to the simple fact that the 5S was old. Then I started to experience the same cutting out/call triggering on my SE after I upgraded to my XR as my main line and bumped the Se from my main to my business cell that I used the 5S for and restored from the 5s backup.
I was using the Alex voice on the 5S and Samantha on the SE, but switched the SE to Siri male to differentiate between phones easier.
Anyway, I restarted the phones, reset settings, the usual stuff.
What got rid of the VO cutting and call triggering for me was switching to another voice. The one I settled on that was tolerable to my ear was Nikki. The high quality version was a little choppy, but the regular one seems to be working well.
I could have tried restoring my business line from scratch, but bleh. That was too much work and I was feeling lazy. Thankfully the synth voice switch did the trick for me.
Also, I made the switch to regular Nikki on the 5s that I still have around as a general purpose device and no more cutting out either.
Cristóbal

There in your general settings voiceover sbeach and voiceover, for some of them you’re going to have to download it and try them and for some of the other ones you just double tap on the name and that it should give you a place to sample the voice. Make the ones like Nikki I think their Samantha voice and some of the Siri voice is I think.

I’ll take a look at that, but this was happening before IOS 12.

Sometimes voice-over stops talking for me, too. I also use Alex on an IPhone 7 running 12.1. Never thought to change voices. Will give that a try.

God bless!

Subject: RE: Problem with voice over muting

Thanks.
