Messages no longer showing contact names

Suddenly the other day, all the message threads on my phone no longer show the names from my contact list, but rather only show the phone number. After sending and receiving a text from my husband, his name is showing up now. I texted my mom, thinking that might trigger it, but now have one message thread with her name an another older one with just her number. A Friend in my contacts texted me for the first time and her message also just came up with a number. I've turned off my phone and checked for any IOS updates, but still no change. Even when my husband called me the other day, caller ID did not identify him by name. Anyone seen this before? On a 6S running IOS 12

I have my wife as a In Case Of Emergency contact. Now when she sends me a
message she shows up as ICE. I have even sent her messages using the
contact information, but when she reply's it is as ICE . Any way to fix
this without dropping the In Case Of Emergency designation?

Perhaps there is an ICE indicator in the nickname field. Go into the
contact, hit edit, and then scroll through and see what if anything is
written for nickname. If there is no nickname, then you can find the
add field item, choose nickname, and then write her first name. I have
my wife set as the emergency contact, and when I get iMessages from
her, it either shows her full name or the nickname that I filled in.

Good luck,
Wayne
