Changing an old Apple id.

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to remove an old email Apple id from an iPhone 6. The reason I want to remove it is because on my old phone 6, I keep getting a message to update my Apple id settings, but when I enter my current password in order to update, I get a message saying wrong password, because it is asking me to update to an old Apple id, and I have no idea what that password was because I haven't used that password in over 3 years. I was quite surprised to see this as well. Matter of fact, I have the exact same problem with iTunes on my Pc, and that is the reason I can't use iTunes on my Pc because I don't remember the old password. I'm not even sure how or when all these changes came about, or unless when I changed my Apple id 3 years ago, and I didn't update certain settings. I'm not sure. I also can see on the phone my current Apple id as well, so this is rather confusing. In short, I don't remember the password to the old Apple id as I said I haven't used that for at least 3 years. I've had several problems with my old phone 6, and this could very well be at least one of the problems, or maybe the culprit. LOL! Now, the question, can I change the old Apple id to my current Apple id, just so I don't have to start changing all these Apple id's and passwords? If that makes any sense!
This is getting to be quite annoying.
Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Signed out of both iTunes and iCloud on your iPhone. Then try to sign back in again. Another option is to clear you’re cache. The last suggestion would be to call Apple accessibility. Unfortunately, there is no way to merge you’re old and new Apple ID. Concerning iTunes, you should just be able to sign out on the PC. If not, ensure your library is backed up, uninstall then reinstall iTunes.

Hi,
Ok, I signed out, and I signed back in, and that was successful. I’m still getting the exact same message though. Telling me I need to update my Apple settings, in which I still get the same message saying wrong password, and then I get a message saying to enter my Apple id, or I will not be able to use some services until I update my Apple id settings. I get only one edit field, and even though, I tried entering my Apple id as well as my password, it still says wrong password. Any other suggestions? I don’t want to merge my old and new Apple ID though,

Thank you all.

Janet,

Try entering the password that you use to unlock your iPhone. When installing IOS updates the iPhone will restart once the update is complete. If you have a passcode set for restrictions it may be requesting that passcode be entered. My guess is it wants your unlock password though. If you have forgotten the password to your first iTunes username; when logged out of all iTunes accounts, enter the old iTunes user email & swipe to I Forgot. You should have had to setup secret questions when originally setting up the old iTunes account. You will be given 2 of the questions, just type in their answer. If the questions are answered correctly, you will be prompted to enter a new password & confirm the new password.

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to remove an old email Apple id from an iPhone 6. HI Donna,
I’ve tried several times to enter my password, but the phone is not accepting it, that is my problem. I don’t have any other restrictions either. This is not just to update an app, this is to update my Apple id settings, in which I can’t do, so as a result, I will not have access to certain account settings until I can get this issue rectified. I have never selected any secret questions either. I’m just thinking when I changed my password a few years ago, I probably should have updated certain Apple settings, but I didn’t know at the time I needed to do that.

Donna

Hi,
Ok, I signed out, and I signed back in, and that was successful.

Janet

Signed out of both iTunes and iCloud on your iPhone. Then try to sign back in again. Another option is to clear you’re cache. The last suggestion would be to call Apple accessibility. Unfortunately, there is no way to merge you’re old and new Apple ID. Concerning iTunes, you should just be able to sign out on the PC. If not, ensure your library is backed up, uninstall then reinstall iTunes.

Hi Everyone,

Do you have access to a computer and have you tried to go to http://AppleID.apple.com and log in there?
See if you can login with your new Apple Id and password.
As for the old one, what email did you use and to you still have access to that email?
If so you should be able to go to Forgot Password and get a password reset link emailed to the old email address.
I assume you now use ***@outlook.com<mailto:***@outlook.com> as your Apple Id? What email did you use before?

Hi Sieghard,
I used this link you gave me, and here is the message I received;
Your Apple ID or password was incorrect
My old Apple id is as follows; harvard-***@sbcglobal.net<mailto:harvard-***@sbcglobal.net>, and no I don’t have access to that email address any more, so I can’t get an email message with a new password from it.
Yes my current Apple id is ***@outlook.com<mailto:***@outlook.com>

I don’t understand why would this phone b asking for my old Apple id though, even though I think it is.

But do you get the password incorrect message when you try to use your new Apple Id or your old?
Can you sign in on this website with your current Apple Id using the Outlook email?

Your Apple ID or password was incorrect
My old Apple id is as follows; harvard-***@sbcglobal.net<mailto:harvard-***@sbcglobal.net>, and no I don’t have access to that email address any more, so I can’t get an email message with a new password from it.
Yes my current Apple id is ***@outlook.com<mailto:***@outlook.com>

I don’t understand why would this phone b asking for my old Apple id though, even though I think it is.

I’ve tried several times to enter my password, but the phone is not accepting it, that is my problem. I don’t have any other restrictions either. This is not just to update an app, this is to update my Apple id settings, in which I can’t do, so as a result, I will not have access to certain account settings until I can get this issue rectified.

Donna

Hi,
Ok, I signed out, and I signed back in, and that was successful.

Janet

Hi Janet,

OK, I'm pretty confused now, you say you can sign in with the link I provided but you say it won't accept your password.
If it doesn't accept your password then you can't sign in.
You need to start the process to reset your password by going to the following website:

Recover your Apple Id<https://iforgot.apple.com/password/verify/appleid>

This is a site off the main AppleID.Apple.com, there is a link you click called "Recover my Apple Id or Password", but in order to make it easier you can just click on the above link and it goes straight there.
Start by entering your Outlook.com email which you say is your current Apple Id, then click continue and follow the instructions.
If you can't successfully reset your password I strongly recommend you go to an Apple Store and ask if they can help because if you do this often enough it may lock your Apple Id down so much that it could take an even greater effort to get it going again.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi,
I get the incorrect password message when I use my current Apple id. Yes, I can sign in with the link you provided using my current Apple id, but it doesn’t accept my password.

But do you get the password incorrect message when you try to use your new Apple Id or your old?
Can you sign in on this website with your current Apple Id using the Outlook email?

Hi Sieghard,
I used this link you gave me, and here is the message I received;

HI Donna,
I’ve tried several times to enter my password, but the phone is not accepting it, that is my problem.

Donna

Hi,
Ok, I signed out, and I signed back in, and that was successful.

Janet

Signed out of both iTunes and iCloud on your iPhone. Then try to sign back in again. Another option is to clear you’re cache. The last suggestion would be to call Apple accessibility. Unfortunately, there is no way to merge you’re old and new Apple ID. Concerning iTunes, you should just be able to sign out on the PC. If not, ensure your library is backed up, uninstall then reinstall iTunes.

Sieghard,
I think it is asking me for my old Apple id in which I don’t remember. Now, I have no problem signing in on my phone using my current Apple id, or my current password, but I’m sure the phone is asking me for my old password which is assigned to my old Apple id. So if I reset my current password,, I will still get the message to enter my password, but again that is to my old Apple id. I’m having the same problem with iTunes on my PC regarding the password issue.
I don’t even know why would my old Apple id even be on my phone any more though. I’m going to try and call Apple, and if they can’t fix this over the phone, I will have to go to the Apple store.

HI Donna,
I’ve tried several times to enter my password, but the phone is not accepting it, that is my problem.

Donna

Hi,
Ok, I signed out, and I signed back in, and that was successful.

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to remove an old email Apple id from an iPhone 6.
Janet

Hi,
This might be a long shot but I’m wondering if you erased all content on your phone set it up as new and redownloaded your apps if it might not clear itself up. I only ask because once upon a time I had an app that I’d purchased before an Apple ID change that was still somehow causing a dust up because it was still somehow looking for the old ID. Not sure if that helps oar not but might be one way of tidying things up.
Good luck with it all.

You should have had to setup secret questions when originally setting up the old iTunes account. You will be given 2 of the questions, just type in their answer. If the questions are answered correctly, you will be prompted to enter a new password & confirm the new password.

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to remove an old email Apple id from an iPhone 6.

Hi Robin,
Thank you for this. I’m seriously thinking about setting up the phone as a new phone, although, this will be the second time doing this, but I’m willing to try. Since I set up the phone last week as a new phone, I haven’t downloaded any of my old apps.

Hi,
This might be a long shot but I’m wondering if you erased all content on your phone set it up as new and redownloaded your apps if it might not clear itself up. I only ask because once upon a time I had an app that I’d purchased before an Apple ID change that was still somehow causing a dust up because it was still somehow looking for the old ID. Not sure if that helps oar not but might be one way of tidying things up.
Good luck with it all.

Sieghard,
I think it is asking me for my old Apple id in which I don’t remember.

Regards,
Sieghard

Your Apple ID or password was incorrect
My old Apple id is as follows; harvard-***@sbcglobal.net, and no I don’t have access to that email address any more, so I can’t get an email message with a new password from it.
Yes my current Apple id is ***@outlook.com

I don’t understand why would this phone b asking for my old Apple id though, even though I think it is.

I assume you now use ***@outlook.com as your Apple Id? What email did you use before?

HI Donna,
I’ve tried several times to enter my password, but the phone is not accepting it, that is my problem.

My brother who is also blind forgot his Apple id password. I went to the link you provided and I found no link for forgot passward.

I assume you now use ***@outlook.com as your Apple Id? What email did you use before?

HI Donna,

I’ve tried several times to enter my password, but the phone is not accepting it, that is my problem.

Donna

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to remove an old email Apple id from an iPhone 6.

Not sure what to say, the link is there and I even sent another email to Janet where I gave a direct link to the Forgot my Apple Id or Password screen. Here is what I get (this is taken from Jaws history):

Do you have access to a computer and have you tried to go to http://AppleID.apple.com and log in there?

See if you can login with your new Apple Id and password.

As for the old one, what email did you use and to you still have access to that email?

If so you should be able to go to Forgot Password and get a password reset link emailed to the old email address.

I assume you now use ***@outlook.com as your Apple Id? What email did you use before?

HI Donna,

I’ve tried several times to enter my password, but the phone is not accepting it, that is my problem.

Janet

Donna

Janet

Signed out of both iTunes and iCloud on your iPhone. Then try to sign back in again. Another option is to clear you’re cache. The last suggestion would be to call Apple accessibility. Unfortunately, there is no way to merge you’re old and new Apple ID. Concerning iTunes, you should just be able to sign out on the PC. If not, ensure your library is backed up, uninstall then reinstall iTunes.

Hello,

If you have access to your old e-mail, you can change your pass word when you connect to Apple website.

If you don't have access this e-mail, I have no idea.

Janet
