A Conversation with Siri

Hi all. I have just updated my software to 12.1, and had the following
conversation with Siri yesterday.

Me: "Hey Siri. Text Ellen."

Siri: "Which Ellen? Ellen, or Ellen Fisher?"

Me: "Ellen."

Siri: "Which Ellen? Ellen, or Ellen Fisher?"

Repeat until I finally hit the Home button and ended the conversation.

I have never had this happen before, and I've had both Ellen's in my
contacts since last summer. My daughter is in my contacts as just Ellen, and
that's w who I meant. Usually Siri knows. (grin)

If I go in and add daughter Ellen's last name, will that solve this? It was
almost funny, because I was real close to yelling at a computer. (I yell at
JAWS all the time, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.)

Yes, adding the last name would help.
I’m not sure without it, you wil be successful, but once you have her last name in, you can tell Siri that Ellen blank is my daughter.
Then, you could say “text my daughter” and it would work every time.

Hi Susie,

If you tell Siri that Ellen is your daughter, you can then say, "Text my daughter." That may be easier. You may want to put in her last name as well.

Computers can definitely be frustrating sometimes.

Before opportunity crowns you with great success, it usually tests
your mettle through adversity.
Adversity provides the resistance necessary to develop the strength to
overcome great obstacles. This strength consists of self-confidence,
perseverance, and, very importantly, self-knowledge. For if you do
encounter a setback, it is a clue to a personal weakness. You may have
been hasty in judging a competitor, or you may have been too timid in
your vision of what needed to be done. Let adversity be your guide to
understanding where you mis-stepped and which qualities you need to
cultivate. No one rejoices in disappointment, but if you are
success-conscious, you can turn the situation into a chance for
improving your character, an opportunity you otherwise would have
missed.

If it asks "Ellen" or "Ellen Fisher" try to say "the first one"
Of course you can also tell SIRI that Ellen is your daughter and say "Text my daughter". I say "text my wife", "text my mother" or "text my brother" all the time.
