Hello Everyone,
Does the Lightning Connector that comes with an iPhone xr charge the phone? I recently bought the xr phone, but when I plug in the Lightning Connector, it does not charge the phone. So, I've been using the phone 6 charger that came with the phone 6 in order to charge my new xr phone.
Any help with this issue will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Janet

Hi,

Sounds like you have either a bad charging brick or a bad cable. Once you have figured out which you have, contact Apple so you can get the defective part replaced.

Best,
Anna

Hi Anna,
De, I can't believe I didn't even think of that! Woe, I'm losing it! Smile! Ok, I did switch the old and new cables, and the wall bricks, and now, both old and new cables say charging in the status bar on the home screen. Although, it took all this time for the batteries to finally charge from 99 percent to 100 percent. This doesn't sound right. Since I've had the phone I used it with the old charger, and it would charge to 100 percent, but now it seems like the batteries are having a hard time charging with the old and new cables and bricks. Any thoughts?
Thank you so much.
Janet

Hi Janet,

In the last few percents of charge, the phone goes into a trickle charge mode where charging is slow so the battery won't overcharge. That's probably why you saw it take a while for the battery to go from 99% to 100%.

There was a bug in the software when iOS 12 first came out that meant devices sometimes didn't charge if they were locked when you plugged them in. that bug was fixed in an update. It's possible that you ran into the bug with the charger that came with your phone, and that all of the hardware is actually working. Make sure you have the latest version of iOS 12.1, and try the new hardware again the next time you need to charge.

Best,
Anna

Hi Anna,
Thank you again for this. So, trickle charge mode, I didn't know this, although, this does make sense though so it doesn't over charge. This is good to know.
Thank you again.
